About that Chlorine Perfume of Yours....

Love to swim, but over smelling like bleach afterwards? Then SWi is here to help! Even if the aroma of chlorine is as comfy as a second skin to you, it's pretty unhealthy to let stick around, leading to everything from dry skin to worse if not properly neutralized after getting out of the water. Chances are, that smell is bothering at least one person around you, too! Here are two quick and easy but effective tools to get you smelling so fresh and clean once again.

  1. Vitamin C Spray: So, sure, you could buy it as an “after swim spray,” but vitamin C actually oxidizes within a couple weeks and loses its effectiveness, so you're way better off making it yourself so it stays powerful. Ascorbic acid, aka vitamin C, neutralizes chlorine more powerfully than any soap or shampoo can. Simply add ½ teaspoon of vitamin C powder to four ounces of water in a spray bottle. Shake, & you're all set! Spritz off after swimming—it's best at the end of a shower, but you can totally do it right after towel drying. Just be sure to not get it in your eyes!

  2. Exfoliate: Body scrubs are excellent for shedding dead skin cells, and leave you feeling extra baby soft. They'll also help get any chlorine that has settled into your skin out by agitating and opening the pores of the top layer of your skin. For best results, choose a scrub with cleansing essential oils, such as lemon or grapefruit, so that when they penetrate your skin, they're doing the extra work to also help get any lingering chlorine out. Just like vitamin C spray, you can quickly and inexpensively make your own: mix 1/3 cup each salt, sugar, and oil such as olive, sunflower, or grapeseed, with 20 drops essential oil of choice.

With these easy chlorine hacks, going through life like a bottle of Clorox will be a thing of the past! Not only will your body be happier, your friends and family will thank you, too.
